The South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council, a 501(c) 3 organization was founded in 1994 to reduce new HIV infection and other sexually transmitted throughout the state. Our vision includes strategies that address the needs of those who are infected and affected by HIV. Mobilizing local communities to slow down HIV/STI infection is guided by our belief that HIV should be everyone’s concern regardless of race, sex, socio-economic level, religion, sexual orientation, or insurance status. As such, we improve the quality of life for citizens through screening and early detection, behavioral risk reduction interventions, and the provision of HIV/STI linkage and medical case management services. Our intention to enhance access and retention in affordable healthcare and remain on the cutting edge of research and new prevention technologies is priority. Through these efforts we continue to fulfill our mission of “improving the health status of South Carolinians by decreasing the spread of HIV”.
