BASSIC TRAINING
B.A.S.S.I.C. Training (Bothers Adopting Safer Sex In Communities) is a culturally adapted HIV prevention curriculum for YBMSM (young black men who have sex with men). B.A.S.S.I.C. Training was adapted from an HIV prevention initiative entitled Be Proud! Be Responsible!, which is an intervention that aims to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among adolescents ages 13-18.
Unlike Be Proud! Be Responsible, B.A.S.S.I.C. Training targets young black men who have sex with men between the ages of 17-24. B.A.S.S.I.C. Training is a five-and-a-half hour, 6-part HIV and other sexually transmitted prevention initiative. The similarities between both aforementioned interventions are that each addresses improving HIV-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. B.A.S.S.I.C. Training includes role playing (risk reduction conversations and skill building to avoid risky situations).
