VOLUNTEERING AT SOUTH CAROLINA HIV/AIDS COUNCIL

We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the immense value of our dedicated volunteers to our organization, our mission and the people we serve.   The gift of their precious time, energy and talents make these generous individuals integral members of our agency.  We continue to be amazed at the impressive diversity of talent, wisdom, ages, genders, economic backgrounds and educational levels of these remarkable people.

It is our goal to create a satisfying experience for each of our volunteers through providing meaningful work that has a direct and tangible benefit to others in a wide choice of service areas, which include:

  • Administrative Assistance
  • Advocacy/Policy
  • Creative Writing
  • Data Entry
  • Girls’ & Women’s Issues
  • GLBT Issues
  • Grant Writing, Fundraising & Resource Development
  • HIV Awareness, Education and Prevention with opportunities for public speaking
  • HIV/AIDS Ministry
  • Information Technology
  • Inter-Volunteer Communication including Social Networking
  • Outreach including helping with our Mobile HIV Testing Unit
  • Photographic Documentation
  • PR/Marketing
  • Special Events
  • Strategic Planning

It is our philosophy that we should give as well as receive by providing for our volunteers access to our computer lab as well as monthly learning experiences that include:

  • Advocacy training
  • An annual visit to the State House during National Volunteer Week in April to see our government in action and speak with legislators
  • Classes in HIV, STDs, and related issues
  • Presentations by related agencies and individuals
  • Tours of HIV medical and dental clinics

We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to tap into the immense creativity that walks through our doors every time one of our current volunteers arrives or a new person comes seeking to help address the crisis of HIV/AIDS.  If you would like to be a part of our volunteer team,

  • please download and fill out the attached SCHAC Volunteer Application.  If filled out online, you may email your application to the Volunteer Coordinator.  If by hand, please fax the form or bring it with you to your interview.

South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council is profoundly grateful for the generous grant award from Central Carolina Community Foundation (www.yourfoundation.org) in May 2009, which has allowed us to purchase additional computers and other equipment for the use of our volunteers and for the building of a stronger and more effective volunteer program.
