Become a Volunteer
Dear Potential Volunteer:
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council (SCHAC).
SCHAC recognizes the value of volunteer support and trains volunteers to carry out defined duties in providing service to the organization, its affiliates, and the clients served by the organization.
Volunteers may choose to work from a number of different volunteer positions: Fundraising, Administrative, Mentor, Buddy or Professional Affiliates.
Fund Raising Volunteers:
Volunteers who choose this area may volunteer their time by selling tickets to Fund Raising events, distributing flyers, and soliciting donations or as assigned to help with various Fund Raising efforts.
Administrative Volunteers:
Volunteers who choose to do so may volunteer their time in the office after completing a one-hour SCHAC orientation. Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Filing and data entry
• Stuffing envelopes for mailing
• Assembling informational packages for various activities
• Typing correspondence
• Copying
• Assisting with special projects
• Answering phones
Mentor Program Volunteers (Between Brothers Project):
Male volunteers 25 years of age or older, that choose this area may volunteer their time as a Mentor to youth between the ages of 13 - 24. For more information on the Mentor Program, ask any staff member or call 254-0162. Individuals interested in being a Mentor must consent to a background check, & a check of the Child Abuse & Neglect Central Registry.
Buddy Program Volunteer:
Individuals choosing this area of volunteer service can volunteer their time assisting clients of SCHAC with day to day activities such as, getting to a doctor’s appointment, running errands, completing forms, etc.
Professional Affiliates:
Volunteers who have professional qualifications and would like to volunteer these services to clients and their families in their professional capacity may choose to do so. (Volunteers choosing this area of volunteer service may be required to submit to a background check if assigned to the Between Brothers Project.)
You may choose to volunteer your time based on our needs at SCHAC, without choosing a specific area above. In that case you would be assigned as our needs dictate.
Application and Qualification Requirements:
The usual process for becoming a volunteer for SCHAC includes:
Completion and returning the enclosed application form.
Completion of the SCHAC Orientation (1 Hour).
Completion and return of routine Confidentiality and HIPPA forms.
